An
Electronic Cigarette is an innovative device that delivers full flavor and/or
nicotine through a vaporized mist and simulate the act of smoking a traditional
cigarette without delivering the carbon monoxide, producing an inhaled vapor
bearing the physical sensation, appearance and often the flavor (with or
without nicotine content) of inhaled tobacco smoke, without its odor or,
ostensibly, its health risks. It does not contain tar and does not produce
smoke, offensive odors or Cancer causing toxins as found in tobacco. There is
no flame or burning and they produce no stubs or ashes. Basic construction consists
of an electronically controlled battery, a small heating element (atomizer),
and a liquid filled cartridge. Other common names for the
Electronic Cigarette:
Nicotine
Inhaler, Personal Vaporizer, E-Cig, Rechargeable Cigarette, Smokeless
Cigarette, E Cigarette, Fake Cigarette, Alternative Cigarette, Electric
Cigarette, Water Cigarette, and Cigarette With Vapor. It Looks like a
cigarette, Feels like a cigarette, Taste like a cigarette, But it is not a cigarette.
The e-cigarette has three main parts: a battery, atomizer, and cartridge.
The
battery, the largest part, has an indicator light on one side and it screws
onto the atomizer. The heart of
every e-cigarette is the atomizer, which converts the e-liquid into smoke. The
cartridge, a cylindrical inhaler that contains the e-liquid, attaches to the atomizer.
Because electronic vaporizers are a non-tobacco product and produce no smoke,
no offensive odor, and no cigarette ash, they can essentially be smoked
anywhere.
Cartomizer:
To
deal with atomizer degradation and the associated expense, manufacturers
introduced an integrated cartridge/atomizer component that is more cheaply
produced, known as a cartomizer. When their heating elements degrade, they can
be disposed of and replaced more cheaply than standalone atomizers.
Cartomizers can also be cleaned and reused which can extend
their useful lifetime. Tanks are also used in association with cartomizers
to increase their capacity.
A cartomizer is integrated inside a plastic or glass tank
which feeds liquid to the cartomizer as it's used via small holes.
Cartridge:
The
cartridge is a small, usually disposable plastic container, with openings on
each end. One end is placed in the user's mouth, while the other attaches to
the atomizer (heating
Element:
This
component serves as both a liquid reservoir and mouthpiece, and as such, must
allow the passage of liquid to the atomizer, as well as vapor from the atomizer
back to the user's mouth, without allowing liquid into the mouth. This is
usually accomplished via an absorbent sponge-like material to keep the liquid
in place, resting on a plastic barrier separating it from the mouth-end
opening; The mouthpiece casing is constructed with side channels that allow
vapor to pass from the atomizer, around the liquid chamber, to the mouth-end
opening.
When
the liquid in a cartridge has been depleted, the user can usually choose between
refilling it, or replacing it with another pre-filled cartridge. Some users
forgo the use of liquid reservoirs altogether, and "drip" liquid
directly onto the atomizer. This method has aptly come to be known as
"dripping". Some manufacturers have responded to this practice by
creating special mouthpieces that are intended primarily to ease use by the
dripping method.
